About
Naliki is a small collection of clothes designed and made by me in Melbourne, Australia using sustainably produced fabrics.
My interest is in making clothes that feel good to wear and have minimal impact on the natural world.
The shapes are influenced by Japanese design – simple lines, relaxed silhouettes.
I source fabrics from small producers I’ve met in person or online over recent years. The linen (organic and conventional) comes from Belgium and Lithuania, both with long histories of flax production. The organic hemp is grown in western Europe and dyed using Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified products. The organic silk is produced by a women’s cooperative in Lao (mulberries.org). It is grown in kitchen gardens, then hand spun, hand woven and hand dyed using natural pigments.
All the fabrics are made in small batches according to seasonal cycles with minimal use of water and without toxic chemicals. They show signs of their natural origins: little sticks show up in the linen and hemp, changes in dye lot are visible in the silk. Small reminders of where the fabrics come from and the hands of the artisans who make them.
Colours show differently on different monitors, so please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about a shade. Please also let me know if you are interested in something that is a different size - I have a long way to go to make my sizing more inclusive.
Prices are in Australian dollars.
